The GAUSS project is exploring how Earth Observation data can be used to provide new sources of official statistics, complementing traditional methods such as surveys. By combining EO data with other sources of “smart statistics,” such as low-cost sensor networks, the project creates new indicators targeting key needs of National Statistical Offices, including air pollution, urban green areas and hydrological drought.
GAUSS is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and is undertaken by a consortium led by the National Observatory of Athens, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the Polish Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, and Evenflow.
Evenflow is responsible for creating the roadmap for how EO can be incorporated into official statistics beyond the scope of the project. We also lead the communications WP and are supporting the overall coordination of the project.
