Civil security addresses challenges related to crisis prevention, preparedness and response, the reduction of cross-border crime, and maritime security and safety. These issues go hand in hand with intelligence and situational awareness and, as such, developments in Earth Observation and frontier technologies have a direct impact on the capabilities available to actors in these fields.

As a team, we have acquired an understanding of the needs and expectations of these user communities. Our consultants have played a role in supporting the research projects which developed the first versions of the Copernicus Security services. We have also supported user uptake of the Copernicus service in Support to EU External Actions and helped refine user requirements surrounding the use of big data for understanding migration.
